Applications are now being accepted by Kemper County SWCD for the Kemper County Beaver Control Cost-Share Program. The Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Commission and the Kemper County Board of Supervisors have funded the program to aid non-industrial private landowners in beaver control. A Night Under the Stars

A Night Under the Stars, featuring singer Jeff Bates will be held on April 27, at 6 p.m. We will be raising funds for our arts and music program at our school, Kemper Academy.  Admission is $10 per adult and $5 per student and includes unlimited use of the bouncy house and field games. Concessions are available. 

Pedens of America Presentation 

A special program is to be held at Smyrna Presbyterian Church April, 28 at 2:30 p.m. All are invited.

Mark Paden from South Carolina representing The Pedens of America and The Sons Of The American Revolution will present a program dedicating a new monument to honor Samuel Peden.   

Samuel pioneered to Kemper County where he and several children are buried.  His grave is reported to be one of the oldest of a Caucasian found in Mississippi. He was buried at Smyrna in 1935. 

For anyone interested in the fascinating Peden history, The House Of Pedens will be available.

ServSafe Food 

Safety Course 


A ServSafe course will be offered at the MSU Extension office in DeKalb, MS on Tuesday, April 30.  The classes will start at 7:30 a.m. The deadline for registration is Wednesday, April 10, (or when registration has reached its maximum number of participants). This course is mandatory for all establishments, (restaurants, schools, nursing homes, day cares, etc.), that serve food to the public.  At least one person in each business MUST be certified.  The cost of the training, book, and exam is $140.00.  No personal checks or cash will be accepted.   For more information, contact the Kemper County Extension office at 601-743-2837.

Center Ridge 

Cemetery Assoc. Meeting

Center Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Association, in Kemper County,  will hold its annual meeting on Homecoming Day after the noon day meal on May 5. Families and friends who have loved ones buried in the cemetery are invited and to help with the maintenance and up-keep of the cemetery. The meeting will start at 1:15 p.m. We have bought a half acre to the south and plans are to get the trees cut and the new fence finished. Donations may also be made to Center Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Association, 7246 Hwy 39 S, DeKalb, Miss.

Pack #4 of Kemper County Cub Scouts is looking for interested individuals (boys and girls) from the ages of six year olds to twelve year olds that are interested in scouting. 4-H Shooting Sports Volunteer 


Kemper County 4-H Shooting Sports will soon be gearing up for another year. Through the 4-H Shooting Sports program youth ages 8-18 are given the opportunity to learn responsibility, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and other qualities critical to the development of productive citizens. We are currently seeking volunteer instructors in archery, shotgun, rifle and pistol. Training opportunities will be available in January. Adults 21 years of age or older must pass a background check and submit an application. Kemper County is a participant in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program providing a free book mailed monthly to the child in the child’s name from birth until the child reaches the age of five.
