4TH  OF JULY CELEBRATION

The Kemper County Chamber of Commerce and the Kemper County Historical Association proudly announce plans for joint celebrations for July 4, 2019. The Kemper Chamber's Independence Day Celebration and Veterans Memorial Service will start at 10 a.m. on the Courthouse Square, with the presentation of the "Sonny" Montgomery Patriot Award. Immediately following will be the unveiling of the Rubin Kemper historical marker, on the east side of the courthouse square. Please make plans to join us for both of these memorable events. MEET & GREET THE CANDIDATES

SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

The Kemper County School Board Regular Scheduled Meeting will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the District Office.  


STUFF THE BUS

Stuff the Bus for Kemper County will take place on July 16 at Pilgrim's Foodliner in DeKalb. The drive will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Elementary schools in Kemper County will receive the donated school supplies and uniforms. The EMCC Lion football team will be joining them for pictures and autographs. A donation of $60 will provide one child the school supplies and uniforms needed to go back to school. Without help from the community on this important drive, many children will return to the classroom without the mandatory tools needed to succeed for the year. COUNTY FAIR EXHIBIT AND FUNDRAISER

Kemper County MHV will host its annual County Fair Exhibit and Fundraiser. Fair exhibits will be on display at the Farmer’s Market August 1 – 2. Viewing is open to the public from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug.1 and 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. August 2. Fair exhibit entries are open to all Kemper County residents. Contact our office for a registration form. Our annual fundraiser is set for August 2  from 11-2. We will serve Ribeye Sandwiches, chips and a drink for $8.00. Homemade cakes, pies, cookies, and pastries will also be available at the bake sale. This event will take place at the Ruby Rankin Farmer’s Market building, located at 587 Old Scooba Road in DeKalb. Tickets are available now for the Ribeye Sandwich plates. Advanced orders required. See any MHV member to purchase your ticket, stop by the Extension office, or call 601-743-2837. Proceeds will be used to fund community service projects.


VOTERS DEADLINE TO REGISTER

The Primary Election is August 6, 2019 and the deadline for registering to vote is fast approaching.  Applicants may register now and until the last day to register in-person at the Circuit Clerk’s Office which will be open July 6, 2019, Saturday, between 8 a.m. until 12 noon.  If you have not registered to vote in the county, changed your name/address/moved, have not voted in the past two consecutive Federal (Presidential) Elections, you need to visit the Circuit Clerk’s Office before the registration deadline to vote in the August Primary Election.

BAPTIST CHURCH HOMECOMING

Simmon Ridge Baptist Churh, Hwy 493 in DeKalb, is inviting everyone out to their Annual Homecoming and Family and Friends Day. It will be August 4 at 2 p.m. Guest speaker will be Pastor Gary Houston of Blackwater Baptist Church. Also beginning August 5-8, the Simmon Ridge Baptist Church will be having their Fall Revival. NO LIONS CLUB FAIR THIS SUMMER

For the first time in many decades, there will be no fair in DeKalb this summer. The ball field is no longer available for this purpose. Several alternate locations have been considered but none meet the numerous requirements. It is hoped that this problem will be resolved in the coming year, enabling the fair to return during the summer of 2020.

The new 2019 edition of the Kemper County Plat Book is now available for purchase at the Kemper County Soil and Water Conservation District office located at 197 Hopper Ave in DeKalb. KEMPER COUNTY SOIL & WATER 

CONSERVATION DEISTRICT ANNOUNCES BEAVER CONTROL COST-SHARE PROGRAM

Applications are now being accepted by Kemper County SWCD for the Kemper County Beaver Control Cost-Share Program. The Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Commission and the Kemper County Board of Supervisors have funded the program to aid non-industrial private landowners in beaver control. CUB SCOUTS SEEKING SCOUTS 

Pack #4 of Kemper County Cub Scouts is looking for interested individuals (boys and girls) from the ages of six year olds to twelve year olds that are interested in scouting. G SPORTS VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT

Kemper County 4-H Shooting Sports will soon be gearing up for another year. Through the 4-H Shooting Sports program youth ages 8-18 are given the opportunity to learn responsibility, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and other qualities critical to the development of productive citizens. We are currently seeking volunteer instructors in archery, shotgun, rifle and pistol. Training opportunities will be available in January. Adults 21 years of age or older must pass a background check and submit an application. Kemper County is a participant in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program providing a free book mailed monthly to the child in the child’s name from birth until the child reaches the age of five. This project is sponsored by the United Way of East Mississippi, the Strasser Family Foundation and the Partners for Kemper County, Community Foundation of East Mississippi.  To enroll your child on the website enter uwem.org and click on Impact Programs Imagination Library  or imaginationlibrary.com and select the “PARENT” tab located at the top of the web page. Registration cards may also be picked up at the Kemper County Library or the Kemper County Economic Development Authority office during normal business hours.
