Weather permitting, the Kemper Academy Rams face two tough district baseball games this week.

The Rams were slated to host Columbus Christian on Tuesday and Hebron Academy on Thursday.  The junior high plays at 4 p.m., and the varsity plays at 6 p.m. Next week, the Rams will host Columbus and will visit Hebron on Friday.

The Rams have not played since last Monday when they defeated Starkville Christian 12-1. Attempts to schedule another game were unsuccessful. Kemper Academy entered the week with a 3-0 record.

“We didn’t play but we practiced every day,” Coach Tony Cawthorn said. “We had good participation. It’s district time and we need to be at our best if we want to make the playoffs.

The MISA Class A playoffs start the week of April 23.

Cawthorn said he has settled on his starting lineup. Chase Cawthorn starts at first base with Garron Dickson at second base and Dylan Dawson at shortstop. Dylan Ricks is the third baseman. Cawthorn said Dickson and Dawson sometimes switch positions. Also, Johnathan Atkinson sees playing time at second base.

Branson Gully is the left fielder while River Keaton is the centerfielder. Nathan White and Logan Harbin both see action at right field. Kody McDade also sees playing time in the outfield. The catcher is Landon Stapleton.

Cawthorn added that the junior high team is 3-0. He sometimes brings three up for varsity games.

“We have a good group on the junior high team,” Cawthorn said. “If they stay together, we will have a good team when they reach the varsity level.”
